Before we start

This is important to us, so we’re putting this first. We are committed to providing a workplace that welcomes and respects all people regardless of gender identity, sex, sexuality, disability, race, religion, background, belief, or age. We believe a diverse team makes us more innovative, creative, and compassionate. We welcome applications from people who are under-represented in the tech sector, and here at Spork.

About us

Spork is a growing software development agency offering practical software advice, technical consultancy and bespoke digital development. We work with startups, established organisations and branding agencies, and have worked with household names like Leon Restaurants, Jack Wills, Disney and EE.

We’re a friendly and supportive team, consisting of front and backend developers, strategists, content producers and designers. We’re committed to making Spork a great place to work by hiring talented people and investing in their growth, professional development, and wellbeing. We believe in cultivating an environment of curiosity and creativity, and we encourage applications from those who thrive on challenge and wish to positively change their workplace.

Are we looking for you?

Spork is looking for its first account manager, a role previously shared by the senior members of our team. This is a role suited to someone who wants to work for a small and growing business, with a varied job description and huge opportunity for career development.

We’re looking for someone organised and thorough. You will have previously worked on technically challenging projects, preferably in web and software development. You need to be technically articulate – we don’t expect you to code, but you will need to understand what our developers are saying and translate that for clients.

We have long term partnerships with our clients, so we’re looking for someone to grow with us and become integral to our continued success.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  1. Fostering close and long-term relationships with all existing and new clients
  2. The maintenance and growth of all client accounts
  3. Confidently advising clients and identifying further opportunities to support them
  4. Assistance with proposals/pitches to win new business
  5. Financial forecasting and reporting monthly
  6. Team planning and resourcing for the months ahead
  7. Day-to-day management of support and maintenance projects.
  8. Responsibility for ensuring smooth project delivery by preparing cost estimates, SOWs, project board management and reporting.
  9. Ensuring that projects remain on budget / on time
  10. Assist in client invoicing.

Our first priority at Spork is staff welfare, but delivering excellent service is a very close second. Clients more often than not get invited to a designated Slack channel. Excellent service, however, takes time and effort. And as we grow, we’ve acknowledged the extra resource this is taking from personnel who otherwise should be concentrating on development work or new business.

Success in your role would be increasing the billable efficiency of developers to 80% within 6 months, whilst keeping the communication line between client and delivery team clear and unobfuscated.

This is the ideal role for you if you’re looking for a long-term career in the tech industry, seek exposure to high level operational plans and want to be a part of the strategic decision making across the business.

We offer:

25 days + bank holidays + all other days between 24th December and 1st January inclusive.

Company share structure, bonus / dividend scheme, training budget, cycle to work scheme.

Flexible working:
We want to see you in the office some days a week, but we understand that work and life needs to be balanced: your plans may vary from week to week. As long as we know about your scheduling, and it doesn’t affect client meetings, we will let you decide what’s best for you and the firm. We aim to be reasonable and choose to invest in our people, and so we don’t have meetings on a Friday. If you’ve pulled in the hours, down tools early!

Plexal Membership:
A job at Spork comes with all the benefits of a membership at Plexal: a diverse startup community with extensive member benefits.
